A Gourmand’s Paradise

Local Delicacies

Embark on a culinary adventure with tastes unique to Phuket Island. You can get a taste in many of Phuket’s local restaurants, while Phuket’s street vendors dish out some of the most authentic and delicious local foods. The only thing to worry about is that you may just get a heavy helping of chilli and spice! So sit back, relax and let the tasting begin!

Khanom jin Phuket: These spaghetti-like rice noodles come with a hearty portion of spicy curry laden with fish. Usually eaten at breakfast, the dish is accompanied by boiled eggs and plenty of fresh basil, dill, mint, sprouts and other herbs and vegetables. Shops selling this dish can be recognised by their many large-lidded pots containing unique recipes.

Lo bah:  Try these fried sausages paired with tofu and sweet and sour sauce. Phuket Town is famous for this dish, which was likely introduced by the island’s original community of Chinese immigrants.

Oh tao: Another Chinese import, the Phuket version of this popular Thai dish features succulent and fresh oysters fried with eggs, flour, and taro root to create an ideal snack. Grab a plate to share at Phuket Town, near the Downtown Market.

Khanom bia Phuket: These crispy crepes are also Chinese in origin, however they are made in Phuket with a local twist. Try them with sweet or savoury fillings, loaded with everything from chocolate and strawberries to meats.

Nam phrik kung siap Get an authentic taste of Southern Thai cuisine with this unique local creation.  This chilli paste combines crispy dried shrimp with loads of onion, garlic and curry paste to create a savoury dip to be enjoyed with some of the island’s indigenous herbs and vegetables.
